Upcoming Courses at smARTspace® Studio
Come to smARTspace studio and join us for one of our smartcookie™ classes. Each season, we offer various lifestyle, cooking, art or craft classes for adults and children.
A fun way to spend time with friends or loved ones. Gather and enjoy an afternoon or evening of refreshments and creating together.
The class schedule is listed below and the cost unless otherwise listed is $40 per person. Class size is a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 10 students. If the minimum has not been met, you will be notified 48 hours before the day of the class and refunded your fee. Call smARTspace studio at (801) 487-6560 for sign up.
April 26, 2019; 6-8 pm — Ikebana Open Studio at the smARTspace studio (12 people maximum)
This workshop is designed for students who have already taken the introductory series. Studio is open for independent freestyle floral arranging. Students will have access to floral material, and the use of tools and design books. Vases are not provided. Bring whatever you would like to arrange in.
April 27, 2019; 11 am-5 pm — Ikebana Exhibition at Salt Lake City Nihon Matsuri by smARTspace studio ikebana students
This ikebana exhibition is held during the annual Japanese Festival in downtown Salt Lake City featuring the work of smARTspace ikebana students and teachers. By invitation.
May 18, 2019; 8 am – 12 pm — Ikebana Open Studio and vase trading at the smARTspace studio
This workshop is designed for students who have already taken the introductory series. Studio is open for independent freestyle floral arranging. Students will have access to floral material, and the use of tools and design books. Vases are not provided. Bring whatever you would like to arrange in.

This class is a basic introduction to Japanese style floral arranging. Learn the history of ikebana and how it has evolved in modern Japan and all over the world. Create 2 small arrangements using fresh materials to take home. (Optional smartcookie™ ikebana kits and supplies will be available for purchase on the day of class).
October, 2019; Date TBD; 10 am to 3 pm (1 hr lunch break) — Ikebana – Class held at smARTspace studio. Fee for this workshop $84

December 7, 2019; 1:30-3:00 pm — Tips for Hosting a Cookie Exchange
Learn new ideas to incorporate into the old fashion cookie exchange. Most people love homemade baked goods, especially during the holiday season. A cookie exchange can work in several ways. It can be a few friends baking cookies together, or be a nice ending to a holiday party with friends, co-workers or neighbors. Take home ideas on how to do invitations and party instructions, as well as ideas for cookie selections and packaging. Come sample some cookies and take home the fool proof recipes. (Optional smartcookie™ cookie exchange kits will be available for purchase on the day of class).
December 14, 2019; Noon-1:30 pm — Japanese Inspired Holiday Floral Arrangements – Class to be held at the smARTspace studio (12 people maximum)
Bring in the New Year with a lucky ornament or wreath. Make a beautiful holiday arrangement using a few simple materials that will last year after year. All materials will be provided and each participant will make a door wreath or table decoration. Japanese New Year customs and cultural traditions will also be discussed. Water, soft drinks and light refreshments will be provided. (Optional smartcookie™ ikebana kits will be available for purchase on the day of class).
December 21, 2019; 10 am-Noon or 2-4 pm — Kids Sugar Cookie Baking & Decorating (10 maximum; ages 8-12 yrs)
This smartcookie™ instructor will demonstrate how to make a basic sugar cookie dough. Kids will cut out a dozen to bake and decorate. Under the supervision of staff, they will learn about measuring and mixing ingredients. Reading a recipe, basic food and tool safety and kitchen etiquette will also be discussed. Aprons, chef jackets and hats will be used during class. (Optional smartcookie™ kids baking kits will be available for purchase on the day of class).
